The New Bulletin newspaper has been purchased by D. B. Norton. With a new owner comes a change of staff. When Ann Mitchell loses her job at the paper, she decides to throw her employer a curve ball. She publishes a letter in the newspaper by a fictional person, John Doe. In the letter, John Doe declares that in protest against the world's corruption he will jump off the roof of City Hall on Christmas Eve. Mayhem ensues as the public respond to this letter, and Ann realizes she has a unique opportunity to reclaim her job if she can only find someone to pose as John Doe.
This special adaptation is based on the screenplay of the 1941 film directed by Frank Capra (It's a Wonderful Life). This film premiered as the United States was crawling out of the Great Depression and seven months before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Where does real societal change stem from? Can a small movement of regular people challenge the status quo? This story's simple message of the power of Love Thy Neighbor still rings true 80 years later.
